| Additional information |
Célia Sánchez Manduley was arguably the most operationally indispensable figure of the Cuban revolutionary movement — she organized the Granma landing logistics, maintained Castro's Sierra Maestra supply lines, and later controlled access to Castro himself for the remaining decades of his rule. She died of lung cancer in January 1980, and Cuba's commemorative coin program of the late 1980s and early 1990s frequently honored revolutionary figures as the government sought hard currency through collector sales abroad rather than domestic circulation.
