Obverse description The obverse features the Mexican national coat of arms at center, depicting a Mexican golden eagle perched upon a prickly pear cactus growing from a rock, devouring a serpent in its beak and talons, framed by an oak and laurel wreath tied with a ribbon at the base. The legend ESTADOS UNIDOS MEXICANOS arcs across the upper field. Surrounding the central recessed panel, a border of stylized pre-Columbian glyphs in relief decorates the broad outer rim. The inscriptions 5 ONZAS DE PLATA and LEY 0.999, denoting the silver content and fineness, appear in the lower field below the coat of arms.
