| Additional information |
This issue spans the opening years of the military junta that seized power from Isabel Perón in March 1976. The Proceso de Reorganización Nacional, as the regime styled itself, inherited an economy in freefall — annual inflation had exceeded 300% by the time the coup occurred. Coins of this denomination were quickly rendered functionally worthless by continued price instability, which explains why circulated survivors are often found in remarkably fresh condition: purchasing power evaporated before the metal could wear.
