The Banco Nacional de la República de Colombia had a troubled institutional life — Congress dissolved it in 1894 under pressure from critics who accused it of inflationary overissue, yet the bank continued operating in a legal grey zone and was still producing notes like this one through the chaotic opening of the Thousand Days War, which began in October 1899. That conflict disrupted distribution networks severely, meaning late-issue notes of this series often saw erratic circulation or none at all.
ABNC retained the plate contracts through the bank's final years, printing in New York against increasingly uncertain orders from Bogotá.
