Banco de la Unión was a short-lived Colombian commercial bank, chartered in 1881 and eventually absorbed into the national banking consolidations of the early 1890s. This note falls within the bank's final active years, a period when Colombian private banking was already under increasing pressure from Bogotá's monetary centralization efforts — pressure that would culminate in the Banco Nacional's monopoly on note issue by 1894.

ABNC printed for dozens of Latin American private banks during this period, producing plates that were often shared, repurposed, or slightly modified between clients. Worth examining the vignette borders closely for recycled elements.
