Lagata is a village in Aragon with a population that barely reached 400 in the 1930s. During the Spanish Civil War, the anarchist-influenced collectivization movement that swept rural Aragon prompted hundreds of municipalities to abolish money internally and, when external trade still required it, issue their own local scrip. This note is one of those emissions — produced not by any banking institution but by the collective itself, almost certainly on whatever printing resources were locally available.

The Consejo Regional de Defensa de Aragón, which nominally oversaw the collectivized zone, was dissolved by Communist-aligned Republican forces in August 1937. Most local scrip from Aragon was rendered worthless within months of issue.
