Reverse description A large historic cannon, depicted in profile angled downward to the left, resting on a wheeled garrison carriage and set upon a rocky platform, commemorating the Great Siege of Gibraltar. The cannon's barrel, wheeled mount, and supporting stonework are rendered in fine relief, evoking the fortifications defended during the siege. The legend 'THE GREAT SIEGE' and the dates '1779-1783' appear in two lines below the central device, with the numeral '10' in large characters at the base of the field. The denomination 'TEN PENCE' arcs along the upper rim, separated from the design by a continuous beaded border.

Additional information

The Great Siege of Gibraltar lasted three years, seven months, and twelve days — the longest siege in British military history. Spanish and French forces blockaded the Rock beginning in 1779, coinciding with British vulnerability during the American Revolutionary War. Governor George Augustus Eliott's defense became a celebrated episode in British imperial memory, and Gibraltar's commemorative coinage has returned to it repeatedly as the defining moment of the territory's identity under the Crown.

KM#1082 ran across a six-year production window, suggesting steady circulation demand rather than a single commemorative release.
