| Obverse description | Fourth crowned effigy of Queen Elizabeth II facing right, as sculpted by Ian Rank-Broadley, wearing the George IV State Diadem. The legend ELIZABETH II BAILIWICK OF GUERNSEY arcs around the upper periphery, with the date 2021 positioned to the lower right. The engraver's initials IRB appear beneath the truncation of the bust. The field is smooth and unadorned, lending prominence to the finely detailed portrait. |

Guernsey has issued its own coinage independently of the United Kingdom since 1830, and the wildlife decimal series — of which this is a part — reflects the island's longstanding tradition of asserting a distinct local identity through its currency. The badger, native to the island, was chosen alongside other Channel Island fauna for a series that replaced earlier decimal designs.
The nickel plated steel composition dates this piece to post-2012 rationalizations in Guernsey's coinage contracts, when the shift away from cupro-nickel reduced production costs across several denominations.
