Hampton Court Palace appears on this Isle of Man 10 pence as part of the territory's long-standing practice of issuing distinctive decimal coinage independent of UK designs — a right retained since the Coinage Act arrangements that govern the Crown dependencies. The Isle of Man has no obligation to mirror Royal Mint reverses and has exploited that freedom aggressively since decimalization in 1971, producing some of the most varied 10p reverse series in the British Isles. Hampton Court itself, begun by Cardinal Wolsey in 1515 and seized by Henry VIII, has never appeared on a UK circulating coin.
