The Isle of Man has long operated outside the UK's Royal Mint framework, issuing its own distinctive coinage through the Pobjoy Mint and later Downies, giving the Manx Treasury unusual latitude to select reverse subjects independent of Westminster. This Buckingham Palace piece forms part of a wider 2023 definitive series marking Charles III's accession — the first complete Manx coinage redesign triggered by a change of monarch since 1997.
Buckingham Palace became the official London residence of the sovereign only under Queen Victoria in 1837.
