Obverse description The obverse bears the uncrowned effigy of King Charles III facing left, modelled by sculptor Martin Jennings and appearing here for the first time on British coinage. The portrait presents a mature, naturalistic bust rendered in high relief with fine detail to the hair, ear, and facial features, consistent with the contemporary artistic tradition adopted by the Royal Mint. The circumferential Latin legend reads CHARLES III · D · G · REX · F · D · 10 PENCE · 2023, interrupted by the denomination and date positioned in the lower field. The engraver's initials MJ appear discreetly below the truncation of the portrait.

Reverse description The reverse depicts a dynamic, high-relief composition of Britannia triumphant, designed by Jonathan Olliffe, showing the helmeted female personification of Britain seated in a chariot drawn by two rearing seahorses — mythological hippocampi with scaly, dragon-like lower bodies — surging through the waves of the sea. Britannia is draped in classical robes and raises a trident aloft in her right hand, with a circular shield bearing a lion medallion resting at her side. The upper field carries the legend BRITANNIA · 1/20 OZ 999 · FINE SILVER, with the date 2023 displayed in the lower exergue and the engraver's initials J.O. positioned discreetly at lower right.
