Additional information

George Tupou V formally surrendered most of his executive powers in 2010, just a year before this coin was issued, transferring political authority to a democratically elected parliament — ending nearly two centuries of absolute monarchy in Tonga. He died in 2012, making 2011 issues from his reign among the last struck in his name.
