Obverse description Diademed, draped, and cuirassed bust of Emperor Justinian I facing right, rendered in the late antique imperial style characteristic of early Byzantine coinage. The effigy displays the emperor in military attire with a prominent paludamentum fastened at the shoulder, conveying imperial authority. The surrounding field carries a partial Latin legend identifying the emperor by his titles. The overall style is typical of provincial mint production, with somewhat cruder engraving than Constantinople issues. Flan irregularities and flat strike areas are consistent with hammered coinage of the period.
