| Obverse description | Diademed, draped, and cuirassed bust of Emperor Justinian I facing right, rendered in the late antique Byzantine style characteristic of the Carthage mint. The imperial effigy is depicted with a pearl diadem and articulated shoulder-guard of the cuirass visible below the paludamentum. The encircling Latin legend runs along the coin's border, partially obscured by the irregular flan but legible in sequence. A dotted border frames the entire design. The portrait, while somewhat provincial in execution relative to Constantinople issues, retains the essential iconographic conventions of imperial representation. |
