| Reverse description | The reverse presents a richly detailed allegorical scene illustrating the prophecy of Isaiah 11:6, depicting a wolf gently cradling a lamb in its arms, the lamb resting in a posture of serene calm and security. To the right of the central group, a grapevine is rendered in fine relief, while a fig tree occupies the left, together symbolising the Messianic vision of 'every man under his vine and under his fig tree'. A dove carrying an olive branch appears above the trees in the upper field, reinforcing the theme of universal peace. The composition is executed in a highly artistic sculptural style with rich detail throughout the field. The reverse carries no inscriptions, allowing the imagery to dominate. |
