Pick 19C belongs to a long-running series that outlasted the political order under which it was designed. Originally issued under Russian imperial authority — Finland was an autonomous grand duchy — the same notes continued circulating after the 1917 declaration of independence, creating the odd situation where pre-revolutionary Finnish currency carried no indication of the rupture that had just occurred.
The 1917 designation reflects the year of authorization for this particular printing variant, not the original plate design. Distinguishing between the sub-types in the 19A–19C sequence requires close attention to serial number ranges and signature combinations.
