| Reverse description | A right-facing bust portrait of the German Romantic painter Caspar David Friedrich is rendered in high relief within a slightly recessed central medallion, depicting him in contemporary early nineteenth-century dress with an open collar. The name CASPAR DAVID FRIEDRICH arcs along the upper periphery of the coin in widely spaced Latin letters. The birth and death years 1774 - 1840 are inscribed along the lower arc, separated from the portrait field by a raised inner ring, with small raised dots flanking both the name and the dates. |
