Obverse description The obverse features a plain field dominated by the bold sans-serif legend 'DEUTSCHE DEMOKRATISCHE REPUBLIK' arranged in three lines across the upper portion of the coin. Centrally positioned in the lower half is the large numeral '10' flanked on the left by the date '1974' and on the right by the denomination unit 'MARK'. The Berlin Mint mark 'A' appears in the exergue at the bottom, beneath a raised inner border rim.

Reverse description The reverse displays the national emblem of the German Democratic Republic — a hammer and compass encircled by a wreath of rye — rendered in the lower central field. Above and surrounding the emblem, the commemorative date span '1949-1974' is inscribed, denoting the 25th anniversary of the GDR. A patriotic political legend encircles the design along the periphery of the field.
