Lithuania's litas was restored in 1993 after the country broke from the Soviet ruble system — the 1997 dated series, of which this is part, was the first full redesign issued once the currency had stabilized enough to warrant long-term planning. G+D's Leipzig facility had been printing Lithuanian notes since the early restoration issues, giving the series a consistent technical baseline across denominations.

Engraver G. Jonaitis is one of the few Lithuanian nationals credited on a G+D-produced note from this period, suggesting direct collaboration rather than standard house engraving.
