Italian POW camp currency occupies a strange administrative corner of wartime finance — these notes were issued not by a bank but by the camp command itself, giving prisoners a controlled medium of exchange for canteen purchases while preventing them from accumulating spendable Italian currency. Camp 28 at Verona was one of several such facilities operating under the Regio Esercito's prisoner administration during the Second World War.
The official stamp is the only authentication device — no watermark, no serial sequence of any complexity. Forgery was presumably not the primary concern; control was.
