Obverse description The central field bears the crowned coat of arms of the Republic of San Marino, depicting the three towers of Guaita, Cesta, and Montale atop Monte Titano, with feathered plumes above and a heraldic shield below. The crown surmounting the arms is rendered in fine detail with decorative arched elements. The circular legend REPVBBLICA DI SAN MARINO runs along the periphery, divided left and right of the shield in incuse lettering. The design is executed in a flat, medallic relief characteristic of Italian aluminium coinage of the period.

Additional information

San Marino issued its 1973 aluminum series as part of a broader push to assert cultural identity through coinage during a period when the republic was renegotiating its relationship with Italy under updated treaty arrangements. The environmental and heritage themes across the series reflected genuine domestic policy priorities rather than purely decorative choices — San Marino had been managing its historic centro storico's UNESCO eligibility since the early 1970s.

KM#25 is part of an eight-coin set; complete sets in original packaging remain far more common than individual circulated examples.
