By 1986, the Vatican's aluminium 10 Lire had become almost entirely ceremonial — Italian lira inflation had rendered the denomination functionally worthless in everyday commerce, and these pieces were produced almost exclusively for the annual Vatican City mint sets sold to collectors. Genuine circulation examples are essentially nonexistent.
