Reverse description The reverse portrays a stylized figure of a graduate in academic regalia — mortarboard cap with tassel, gown, and tie — shown from the waist up and holding a diploma or scroll in the lower right. Behind the figure, the neoclassical façade of a university building with prominent columns and a domed roof occupies the background field. The Latin motto 'NON SCHOLAE, SED VITAE DISCIMUS' (We learn not for school, but for life) curves along the upper legend, while the word 'EURO' appears in the lower field. The composition is rendered in high relief against a deeply mirrored proof surface.

Additional information

Issued to mark the 125th anniversary of higher education in Bulgaria, a system whose origins trace to the founding of a higher school in Sofia in 1888 — itself built on the framework established when the post-Ottoman Bulgarian state was barely a decade old. The coin belongs to a long-running BNB commemorative silver program that produced dozens of collector-targeted pieces through the 1990s and early 2000s, most in similarly small mintages with limited secondary market depth.
