Obverse description Central device depicts an armed soldier standing upright before a stylised rising phoenix with wings spread wide, symbolising the rebirth of the Greek state under the military junta. The circular legend ΒΑΣΙΛΕΙΟΝ ΤΗΣ ΕΛΛΑΔΟΣ (Kingdom of Greece) runs along the upper periphery. In the lower field, the commemorative date 21 ΑΠΡΙΛΙΟΥ 1967, marking the date of the coup, appears above the mint year 1973, both inscribed in the exergual area.
