| Obverse description | Bare-headed youthful effigy of King George I facing left, rendered in high relief with finely detailed hair curling behind the ear and at the nape of the neck. The circular legend ΓΕΩΡΓΙΟΣ Α! ΒΑΣΙΛΕΥΣ ΤΩΝ ΕΛΛΗΝΩΝ runs around the periphery within a beaded border. The engraver's signature ΒΑΡΡΕ appears in small letters below the truncation of the bust. The date 1869 is inscribed in the lower exergue, flanked by small decorative ornaments. |
