Founded in 1852 as the School of Agriculture at Pantelimon, the University of Agronomic Sciences and Veterinary Medicine of Bucharest is among the oldest agricultural higher education institutions in southeastern Europe. It survived intact through both World Wars and the forced collectivization drives of the early Communist period, though its curriculum was heavily distorted after 1948 to serve Soviet-aligned agricultural policy. The National Bank of Romania has issued collector commemoratives honoring Romanian academic institutions with some regularity since the early 2000s, this piece falling into an established series rather than marking any singular institutional anniversary.
