Issued as part of Romania's long-running commemorative silver program, this piece honors Ion Ionescu de la Brad, the 19th-century agronomist and statistician whose 1859 surveys of Moldavian and Danubian agriculture remain foundational documents in Romanian economic history. His work was conducted in the immediate aftermath of the union of Wallachia and Moldavia — a politically turbulent moment when establishing a coherent picture of the new state's productive capacity was genuinely urgent.
