Romania hosted the 18th Sommet de la Francophonie in Bucharest in 2024, but this coin was struck four years earlier in anticipation of the event — the summit having been postponed twice, first by the COVID-19 pandemic and then by scheduling conflicts. It is a rare case of a commemorative issue outpacing the event it commemorates by nearly half a decade.
