Additional information

Northern Transylvania was awarded to Hungary under the Second Vienna Award of August 1940, brokered by Nazi Germany and Fascist Italy, after Romania was pressured into ceding roughly 43,000 square kilometers without military conflict. Romanian administration was restored in March 1945 following Soviet pressure on the Horthy and then Arrow Cross regimes' collapse — a liberation Romania marks officially, though the politics of that "liberation" have never been uncomplicated given the Soviet role in engineering it.

The 75th anniversary lands squarely in a period when Romanian-Hungarian historical memory remained contentious enough that the framing of this coin's title was itself a political statement.
