Reverse description The reverse is executed in deep purple and violet tones over a fine guilloche underprint composed of repeating numeral 10 patterns. The central vignette presents an elaborate ornamental brooch or fibula — a traditional Latvian decorative clasp — rendered in intricate intaglio work against layered guilloche bands. At lower right, the Latvian state coat of arms is engraved in fine detail, flanked by a lion and a griffin. The date 1992 appears in purple numerals below the coat of arms, and the legend LATVIJAS BANKAS NAUDAS ZĪME is inscribed at the lower centre, with DESMIT LATU and the denomination numeral 10 placed at the upper portion of the note.

Latvia's independence was restored in May 1990, but the ruble remained in circulation until a phased withdrawal that began with the introduction of the Latvian rublis in 1992 and concluded with the lats in 1993. This 10 latu note belongs to the first lats emission printed in preparation for that final transition — the physical notes were ready before the currency was officially reintroduced, a deliberate strategy to prevent the speculative runs that had destabilized other post-Soviet monetary transitions.

The series was printed by De La Rue. Pick records it as 1992, though circulation began in 1993.
