| Obverse description | Incuse rectangular border frames four large Chữ Nôm/Han characters arranged vertically in two columns, reading 嗣德年造 (Tự Đức Niên Tạo, meaning 'Made in the reign of Tự Đức'). The characters are deeply inscribed into the cast gold surface, rendered in a bold calligraphic style. The field exhibits the characteristically uneven, granular texture of a hand-cast bar. The irregular edges of the piece are consistent with Vietnamese imperial gold currency of the Nguyễn dynasty period. |
