Obverse description The national coat of arms of Malawi occupies the central field, featuring a quartered shield supported by a lion rampant to the left and a leopard rampant to the right, with a rising sun depicted at the base. An African fish eagle with outstretched wings crowns the shield as crest. The motto ribbon below the shield bears the legend UNITY AND FREEDOM. The circular legend REPUBLIC OF MALAWI arcs along the upper periphery, with the date 20 10 divided across the middle field on either side of the supporters, and the denomination 10 KWACHA inscribed along the lower rim.
