Part of Malawi's extended wildlife series issued through the late 2000s and into 2010, these pieces were produced for the collector market rather than circulation — Malawi's actual circulating coinage bore no relation to the face values on these issues. The Carrikeri Harlequin, a reef fish from Indo-Pacific waters, has no particular connection to landlocked Malawi, which tells you everything about the nature of the series.
