| Obverse description | The coat of arms of the Republic of Malawi occupies the central field, featuring a quartered shield with wavy lines in the upper half and a lion passant in the lower half, surmounted by a rising sun crest. The shield is supported on the dexter by a lion rampant and on the sinister by a leopard, both rendered in fine detail. A scroll below bears the national motto UNITY AND FREEDOM.
