Obverse description The coat of arms of the Republic of Malawi occupies the central field, featuring a quartered shield with wavy lines in the upper half and a lion passant in the lower half, surmounted by a rising sun crest. The shield is supported on the dexter by a lion rampant and on the sinister by a leopard, both rendered in fine detail. A scroll below bears the national motto UNITY AND FREEDOM. The legend REPUBLIC OF MALAWI arcs along the upper periphery, with the date 2005 divided across the lower field flanking the supporters, and the denomination 10 KWACHA inscribed along the lower rim.
