Obverse description Central field dominated by the ornate calligraphic tughra (imperial monogram) of Sultan Abdülhamid II, rendered in finely engraved Ottoman script with characteristic sweeping upward strokes and looped base. The honorific epithet 'el-Ghazi' (the Victorious) appears in Arabic script to the right of the tughra. The regnal year notation appears in Arabic numerals below the tughra in the lower field. The entire design is set within a lobed, cloud-band inner border framed by an outer ring of crescents and six-pointed stars alternating around the circumference, itself enclosed by a reeded rim.
