Svenska Stenkolsaktiebolaget Spetsbergen operated a coal mining concession on Svalbard in the 1920s, and like other Arctic mining camps of the period, it functioned as an economic island — workers were paid in company scrip redeemable only at the company store. These notes circulated exclusively within the mining settlement, never entering the broader Swedish or Norwegian monetary system.

The "LC" designation in the catalog reference indicates a later, corrected printing — suggesting at least one revision was made to the original issue, though the precise nature of the amendment is not firmly documented.
