This piece is a commemorative issued for the 900th anniversary of Helsingborg, one of Sweden's oldest towns and the site of a strategically critical strait crossing to Danish Helsingør. The town changed hands repeatedly between Sweden and Denmark before Sweden's permanent acquisition following the Treaty of Roskilde in 1658 — a shift that fundamentally redrew Scandinavian power in the region. The Riksbank authorized a limited commemorative run rather than a circulation issue, which explains the bronze composition unusual for Swedish coinage of this denomination at the time.
