Mälare Provinsernas Enskilda Bank was one of Sweden's provincial private banks operating under the 1824 enskilda bank framework, which permitted note issuance backed by the personal liability of shareholders rather than state reserves. That system was already under pressure by 1875 — the Riksbank was steadily consolidating its monopoly on note issuance, and most enskilda banks had lost that right entirely by 1903.

Jacob Bagge was Stockholm's dominant commercial printer for provincial bank paper in the mid-nineteenth century. Notes from this issuer are infrequently encountered, likely reflecting both limited original circulation area and low survival rates from the mandatory redemption and cancellation process that followed the withdrawal of enskilda bank note-issuing privileges.
