Denmark's wartime occupation by Germany from April 1940 created immediate pressure on the note supply — German forces drew heavily on Danish currency, and the Nationalbank had to issue substitution notes to cover shortfalls in the regular series. This type 2 substitution 10 Kroner was part of that stop-gap response, running from the final occupation year through 1948 as postwar normalization slowly permitted a return to standard issue.

The sheer number of signature combinations across series a through u reflects unusually rapid staff rotation in the cashier's department during this period. Sixteen documented pairings across just four years is high for a single denomination, and collectors tracking signature varieties on this note have more work cut out for them than the Pick number alone suggests.
