Store Norske Spitsbergen Kulkompani was a coal mining company operating on Svalbard, and its scrip notes functioned as a closed monetary system — workers at Longyearbyen were paid in company currency redeemable only at the company store. This was not unusual for remote Arctic mining operations, but the Svalbard scrip series is among the better-documented examples of private industrial currency in Scandinavian numismatics.

The SN41r designation indicates a known remainder — unissued stock that survived, which is why remainders appear more frequently than genuinely circulated examples. A note that actually passed through the mining camp canteen is the harder find.
