Additional information

Frederik VIII ascended the Danish throne in January 1906 at the age of 62, having waited longer than almost any modern European crown prince before him. His reign lasted only six years before his death in Hamburg in 1912 — he collapsed in a hotel and was not immediately identified, his body lying unclaimed for hours. The 10 Kroner gold piece was struck across just two years of his reign, making the total issue relatively confined.

The .900 fine gold composition aligns with the Scandinavian Monetary Union standard established in 1873, to which Denmark remained committed through Frederik's reign.
