Obverse description Bare-headed right-facing effigy of King Oscar II with full beard and short curly hair, rendered in high relief against a plain field. The legend OSCAR II NORGES o SVER. KONGE arcs along the upper periphery, divided by the portrait. The date 1874 appears in the lower exergual area, flanked by small star ornaments. The coin is bordered by a fine beaded rim throughout.

Reverse description Central crowned shield bearing the Norwegian lion rampant, the arms rendered in fine engraved detail and surrounded by an unadorned field. The denomination 10 KRONER arcs along the upper legend, while the dual designation 2 1/2 SP flanks the shield to left and right respectively. The lower exergue bears the mint production inscription 248 Stk 1 Kil.f.G., indicating 248 pieces struck from 1 kilogram of fine gold. The design is enclosed by a beaded border.
