| Obverse description | Central five-fold quartered coat of arms, surmounted by a princely crown and draped within an elaborate mantle, with a cardinal's hat displayed above bearing pendant tassels. The shield quarters display the arms associated with Ludwig Constantin von Rohan-Guéménée, Bishop of Strasbourg, rendered in fine relief. The date 1773 and mint mark G appear in the lower portion of the field. The circular Latin legend surrounds the entire composition, reading from the lower left, within a toothed border. |

| Additional information |
Ludwig Constantin von Rohan-Guéménée served as Prince-Bishop of Strasbourg from 1756 until his death in 1779, part of a dynasty that dominated the see for much of the eighteenth century — the Rohan family held the bishopric nearly continuously from 1704 to the Revolution. This issue predates by a decade the scandal that would consume his nephew and successor, Louis René Édouard de Rohan, whose involvement in the Affair of the Diamond Necklace in 1785 helped discredit the French aristocracy and accelerate the collapse of the Ancien Régime.
