Obverse description Three-quarter length armored bust of Archduke Ferdinand II of Austria facing right, wearing elaborately engraved plate armor with ruffled collar and holding a scepter in his right hand. The effigy is rendered in bold relief in the hammered style characteristic of Tyrolean coinage of the mid-sixteenth century. The figure is positioned centrally within the field, with the legend encircling the design along the coin's periphery between two rope-twist borders. The Latin legend reads FERDINANDVS D G ARCHID AVSTRIAE, identifying the ruler as Ferdinand, by the grace of God, Archduke of Austria.
