Frankfurt struck this issue in 1762, the final year of the Seven Years' War, when the city had only recently been vacated by French occupying forces who had held it since 1759. The French commandant had levied crushing financial impositions on the city throughout the occupation, and the resumption of independent municipal coinage carried real administrative weight — Frankfurt's minting authority was both a practical necessity and a reassertion of rights that had been effectively suspended.
The KM#216.2 designation distinguishes this from the closely related 216.1 variety. Collectors should note the JuF#823a attribution when acquiring, as the two varieties are frequently conflated in generalist auction descriptions.
