The Czech 10 Koruna has an odd institutional history: it is issued by Česká mincovna, a private joint-stock company operating under license, rather than by a state mint — an arrangement that remains unusual among European coinage systems. The Czech National Bank retains authority over design and specification, but the actual striking is entirely privatized. By 2000, the series was well into its circulating run, having been introduced with the currency split following Czechoslovakia's dissolution on January 1, 1993.
