Obverse description The Slovak national coat of arms — a pointed shield bearing a double-barred patriarchal cross surmounting three stylized hills — is displayed prominently in the upper field. Below the shield, the legend SLOVENSKÁ REPUBLIKA arcs across the lower field in two lines of bold capital letters, with the date 1993 centered in the exergue. The design is rendered with a deeply mirrored proof finish against a polished field.

Additional information

Slovakia issued this coin in 1993, the same year the country came into existence following the peaceful dissolution of Czechoslovakia on January 1st. The National Bank of Slovakia was established that same day, making the rapid production of a national coinage both a practical necessity and a political priority. The .975 fine silver specification is notably high for a circulating-type issue of this denomination.
