Additional information

The 1968 commemorative issue marking the 85th anniversary of the Prague National Theater came out in one of the most politically turbulent years in Czechoslovak history — the same year Soviet-led Warsaw Pact forces invaded in August to crush the Prague Spring reforms. Coin production continued under the Czechoslovak Socialist Republic regardless, though the invasion fundamentally altered the government that authorized the issue.

The .500 fineness was standard for Czechoslovak commemoratives of this period, a deliberate cost-control measure adopted after the country's higher-silver series of the 1950s proved too expensive to sustain at commemorative volumes.
