Additional information

In 1956 the Soviet monetary authorities were actively exploring alloy substitutes ahead of the 1961 denomination reform, which would ultimately revalue the ruble at 1:10 and require an entirely new coin series. This piece is part of that experimental program — trial strikes produced at the Leningrad Mint in non-standard alloys to test die wear, striking behavior, and visual appeal before any production commitment was made. The Ushakov R-2 rarity rating confirms very few examples were preserved outside institutional holdings.
