Obverse description The obverse displays the State Emblem of the Soviet Union in high relief at the centre of the field: a hammer and sickle superimposed on a globe, framed by two symmetrical sheaves of wheat bound with a ribbon, and surmounted by a five-pointed star. Radiating rays emanate from behind the globe. The Cyrillic legend СССР (USSR) appears in bold letters along the lower rim.

Below the numeral, the Cyrillic denomination legend КОПЕЕК is inscribed, with the four-digit mint year centred beneath it along the lower field. The design is simple and utilitarian, with the date and denomination clearly legible against a flat ground.
